Arkansas HC Eric Musselman moves to USC

Eric Musselman made headlines on Thursday when he announced his move to USC, leaving Arkansas after five successful seasons, including three Sweet 16 appearances and two trips to the Elite Eight. In Musselman’s nine collegiate seasons (four at Nevada, five at Arkansas), Musselman has posted a 221-93 record.

For Musselman, after a disappointing season in 2023-24, a fresh start may be what is needed, especially when it comes in Los Angeles. For USC, they absolutely nailed this hire, as head coach Andy Enfield left for SMU, they replaced him with a tremendous upgrade, a coach with deep tournament run experience. Musselman was a perfect fit for USC, and he can hope to turn this program around as they head into their first season in the Big Ten.

Bronny James declares for NBA Draft and enters name into transfer portal

More news in Los Angeles came on Friday morning, as Bronny James, son of NBA star LeBron James, placed his name in the transfer portal and declared for the 2024 NBA Draft. Bronny has NBA upside, and likely would’ve been a sure-fire selection in this year’s draft if it weren’t for the heart problems he suffered this past offseason.

His high upside and potential could lead to an NBA team taking a chance on him this summer, but I think it’s more likely he gets valuable feedback from the talent evaluators and heads to a slightly smaller school in the transfer portal to find himself in a bigger role. Duquesne is the school to watch here, as the James family has connections to the program, including newly hired Dru Joyce III, who was LeBron’s high school teammate.

Other Things to Note:

  • Wyoming freshman forward Cam Manyawu (8 ppg, 7 rpg) enters the transfer portal
  • Miami transfer guard Bensley Joseph (10 ppg, 3 rpg, 3 apg) commits to Providence
  • USC sophomore center Vincent Iwuchukwu (6 ppg, 4 rpg) enters the transfer portal
  • USF senior guard Selton Miguel (15 ppg, 3 rpg, 2 apg) enters the transfer portal and declares for the NBA Draft
