NCAA Leading Scorer Tommy Bruner Scores 49 in 2OT Win
In what could go down as the game of the year, South Dakota and Denver University went back and forth for 50 minutes. The game was tight throughout, and Tommy Bruner showed why he leads the country in scoring, finishing with 49 points and 14 in the overtime periods. Bruner and Denver would win 111-110 after Isaiah Addo-Ankrah’s three-pointer as time expired in double overtime. South Dakota had the ball on an inbound opportunity with six seconds to go but the pass was stolen by Tommy Bruner, leading to the buzzer-beating three. DU jumped up to 4-2 in Summit League play as South Dakota fell to 2-4. The Coyotes were led by Kaleb Stewart’s 44 points, many of which came in the extra periods.
Jordan Pope Calls Game vs #9 Arizona
Late last night, Oregon State pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the season as the buzzer sounded. Arizona had a great final two minutes to tie the game up with 11 seconds to go, but Wayne Tinkle opted not to call a timeout and gave his best player, Jordan Pope, the opportunity to win the game. Pope’s high-arching side-step three went over Arizona’s KJ Lewis and dropped straight through the net before a dramatic court storming ensued. The Beavers improved to 10-9 while Arizona suffered another stunning loss in Pac 12 play. The Wildcats struggled to defend Oregon State from three, with the Beavers finishing 12-20 from beyond the arc. Pope went 5-8 from three and scored a career-high 31 points in the win.
Big Ten Blockbuster Headlines Friday’s Matchups
Michigan State and Wisconsin meet in Madison tonight after 52 days after the Badgers took down the Spartans 70-57 in East Lansing. That loss had dropped the Spartans to 4-4 on the season but wins in eight of their last 11 games give MSU momentum coming into the game. Wisconsin dominated the glass in the first meeting, and Michigan State will need to keep the rebounding tally close if they want a chance in the rematch. The Badgers hold a nine-game home winning streak and have won eight out of nine overall.
