FAU lands commitment from Jackson State transfer Ken Evans Jr.
Overshadowed by the news of Dan Hurley returning to UConn on Monday was the commitment of one of the best players left in the transfer portal, Ken Evans Jr., to FAU. Evans Jr. broke out as a star in the SWAC for Jackson State this past season, averaging 18.8 ppg, 5.4 rpg, and 2.9 apg for the Tigers en route to winning the conference’s player of the year award.
First year head coach for FAU, John Jakus, has done a terrific job in the transfer portal this offseason putting together a team that will be able to compete in the AAC after the departure of Dusty May and nearly the entire Owls roster. Jakus has attacked the portal in a seemingly specific way, going after some of the best low-major players in the country. Alongside Evans Jr., Jakus has landed commitments from Eastern Kentucky’s Leland Walker (15.4 ppg, 4.1 apg) and KyKy Tandy (17.8 ppg, 2.6 rpg) already this offseason. Jakus has also added a handful of high-major transfers looking for a fresh start, including Florida State’s Baba Miller, Illinois’ Niccolo Moretti, and Louisville’s Kaleb Glenn.
The Owls won’t have the same hype surrounding them this year after losing Dusty May, Johnell Davis, Vlad Goldin, and others, but under first-year head coach John Jakus should still be one of the favorites in the new-look AAC. The commitment of Ken Evans Jr. on Monday gives this team more experience and scoring in the backcourt, two things any team in the country would love to add to their roster in mid-June.
