All-MVC guard Isaiah Swope follows Josh Schertz and Robbie Avila to Saint Louis
Indiana State head coach Josh Schertz took the Saint Louis job not long after the Sycamores fell in the NIT championship game in early April. It wouldn’t be long before he’d get some of his players to follow suit. Star center Robbie Avila committed on Saturday, and second-leading scorer Isaiah Swope announced his commitment on Monday. For the season, Swope averaged 15.9 ppg and 3.0 rpg in his first season with Indiana State after transferring in from Southern Indiana. Gibson Jimerson (15.8 ppg) was one of the best players in 2023-24 on Saint Louis, and recently announced he would be returning to the program. With Josh Schertz at the helm and a big three of Avila, Swope, and Jimerson, the sky is the limit in the Atlantic 10 for the Billikens.
Minnesota junior guard Elijah Hawkins enters the transfer portal
This piece of news here frustrates me, not only as a Minnesota fan, but as a college basketball fan. On April 10, Elijah Hawkins announced he would be returning to Minnesota. A few days later, he appeared in a show and did some advertising for one of the school’s NIL groups. Now, here we are, a week and a half later, and Elijah Hawkins has entered his name into the transfer portal. This is the college basketball world we live in now. No player is truly “committed” to a school – at any point in time. Hawkins proved that today with his decision. I’m sure he hasn’t been the first player to do this, and he definitely won’t be the last. Hawkins averaged 9.5 ppg and 7.5 apg this past season and can fill in the role as a pass-first point guard that will create for his teammates at any level he chooses to continue it.
