Illinois guard Terrence Shannon Jr. found not guilty of rape by Kansas jury

The biggest news in the college basketball world on Thursday came on the legal scene, as ex-Illinois guard Terrence Shannon Jr. was found not guilty of felony rape and aggravated sexual assault by a Kansas jury following a weeklong trial.

The alleged incident occurred back in September of 2023, when Terrence Shannon Jr. was visiting KU for a football game and other festivities. Shannon Jr. was arrested in December and subsequently suspended by Illinois, missing the next six games of the season before obtaining a temporary restraining order. The case shadowed Shannon Jr. everywhere he went over the past six months, and it is a great sight to see that he has been freed of any charges in time for the 2024 NBA Draft later this month. The finishing of the case and the result of not guilty removes any questions surrounding Shannon Jr.’s legal standing and makes him that much more of an enticing prospect.

Shannon Jr. was one of the most electrifying players in college basketball this past season and I wish him well in his future and with the NBA Draft this month. No player, or person for that matter, should ever have to endure what he had to go through over the course of the last six months.
