Late Clemson turnovers, Tyrese Proctor FTs see Duke escape

Duke took a 12-point lead late in the first half against Clemson, but the Tigers finished the half on a 6-0 run to tighten the game. Clemson kept fighting back in the second half, and even took a 69-65 lead with 2:15 to play. However, the next four possessions after taking a 4-point lead resulted in four turnovers from Ian Schieffelin. Even with all this, Clemson took a 71-70 with seven seconds remaining. Tyrese Proctor would drive in with the clock winding down and throw up a shot near the free throw line when a foul was called on Clemson’s Josh Beadle. The late call created a lot of controversy postgame, as Proctor would hit both free throws and Duke would escape with a 72-71 home win.

TCU outlasts Baylor in 3OT Big 12 thriller

Lots of drama from Durham, but it was the two Texas schools battling out in Waco for the most exciting game of the day. Baylor let an 8-point lead slip in the final seven minutes of regulation, as Chuck O’Bannon Jr. hit a three with 51 seconds left to send the game to overtime. Ja’Kobe Walter then scored a three with two seconds left in the first overtime period to tie the game, and minutes later Micah Peavy hit two clutch free throws to set up a third overtime. Jameer Nelson Jr.’s put-back with 10 seconds left in triple-overtime would ultimately be the deciding basket. Baylor has now lost three straight and sit at 3-3 in the Big 12, as TCU moves up to 4-3, tied for fourth in the conference.

Wyoming beats Colorado State after trailing by 11 with a minute to go

Two crazy finishes in the other games mentioned, but the final minute of regulation in Laramie yesterday may be the best of the season. Nique Clifford gave Colorado State a 64-53 lead with 1:11 to play, and the game seemed to be all but over. That’s when Sam Griffin and Mason Walters went to work for the Cowboys though, combining for the 12 points scored by Wyoming in the final minute. The Cowboys were able to grab two offensive rebounds off of free throws, with the latter setting up Walters’ game-tying basket at the buzzer. Akuel Kot took over for Wyoming in the extra period, scoring 10 points during it and leading Wyoming to a 79-76 comeback victory.
