BYU hits 13 three-pointers in first-ever victory at Allen Fieldhouse

The first year in the Big 12 just got even better for BYU, as the Cougars beat Kansas for the first time since 1961. BYU shot 13-34, a mark well above Kansas’ 3-15 three-point shooting. The Kansas Jayhawks deeply missed Kevin McCullar Jr. in this one, as Nicolas Timberlake, who started in his place, shot 1-9 from the field and 1-6 from three-point range. Dallin Hall and Jaxson Robinson were the catalysts for the BYU offense, each scoring 18 points. The second half between these two teams was back and forth, but a Dallin Hall three-pointer with 1:34 to play gave BYU a 71-66 lead, one they would hold onto, winning 76-68. With the win, BYU moved to 8-7 in Big 12 play as it heads into its first ever Big 12 matchup with TCU on Saturday.

Reed Sheppard’s 32 points and buzzer-beater gives Kentucky win over Mississippi State

Coming off the bench seems to work well for Kentucky’s Reed Sheppard, as the freshman scored a career high 32 points in the Wildcats’ win on Tuesday night. Sheppard was an efficient 11-14 from the field, including 4-7 from three, and affected the game in a multitude of areas, finishing with five rebounds, seven assists, two steals, and two blocks. Mississippi State has their own star freshman, as Josh Hubbard scored 34 points in the loss for the Bulldogs, hitting seven of his 14 three-point attempts. The second half of this game was full of swings, as Kentucky rallied from a 13-point deficit to take an 85-78 lead with 49 seconds left. In the following 38 seconds, Mississippi State went on an 11-4 run, including two Josh Hubbard three-pointers. After the second Hubbard three-pointer during that span, the game was tied at 89-89 and Reed Sheppard had the ball in his hands for the final shot. Sheppard would run down the middle of the lane, lofting a floater into the net with just 0.5 seconds to play, giving Kentucky a 91-89 win. The Wildcats are now 4-1 in their last five games, hosting Arkansas and Vanderbilt before visiting Tennessee to finish the regular season.

Wake Forest falls to Notre Dame, terribly hurts its NCAA Tournament hopes

Freshman Markus Burton had the biggest game of his young career Tuesday night for Notre Dame, scoring 31 points and grabbing four steals, leading his team to a stunning victory over NCAA Tournament hopeful Wake Forest. Hunter Sallis struggled for Wake Forest, just three days after his 29-point performance in a win over Duke. This was a brutal loss for the Demon Deacons’ tournament hopes, which had drastically increased after Saturday. With the loss, Wake Forest fell to 1-7 in its last eight road games and will play at Virginia Tech on Saturday. The matchup with the Hokies and two home tests vs Georgia Tech and Clemson are almost all must-wins for Wake Forest after tonight’s loss.
