Alvaro Cardenas moves in-conference to Boise State from SJSU

The biggest addition any team made through the transfer portal on Wednesday was Boise State adding Alvaro Cardenas, a junior transfer from San Jose State. The Broncos were already largely considered the way-too-early favorites in the Mountain West Conference for 2024-25, but the addition of Cardenas fills a position they desperately needed this past season. Cardenas is a true point guard that fill make his teammates better and give them open looks while also being able to shoot the ball himself (46% FG, 39% 3P in 2023-24). Cardenas averaged 13.2 ppg, 3.3 rpg, and 5.5 apg this past season for San Jose State. After three straight years of tournament disappointments from Leon Rice’s teams, I’ll make my bold prediction now that the Broncos still stand come the second weekend of the 2025 NCAA Tournament.

Transfer portal continues to grow

As it will be for the rest of April, more players entered the transfer portal on Wednesday, including a number of power conference names. Purdue seniors Mason Gillis (7 ppg, 4 rpg) and Ethan Morton both entered the transfer portal Wednesday. USF junior forward Kasean Pryor (13 ppg, 8 rpg) entered the transfer portal as well as declaring for the NBA Draft. Big South Newcomer of the Year and High Point junior guard Duke Miles (18 ppg, 4 apg) entered the transfer portal Wednesday evening as well.

Other Things to Note:

  • Former McDonald’s All-American Arterio Morris enters the transfer portal
  • Penn grad transfer Clark Slajchert (18 ppg, 3 rpg, 3 apg) commits to USC and Eric Musselman
  • San Francisco sophomore guard Mike Sharavjamts (8 ppg, 3 rpg, 3 apg) enters the transfer portal
  • Oregon State senior guard Dexter Akanno (11 ppg, 3 rpg) enters the transfer portal
