#8 Arizona survives in triple overtime on the road at Utah

One of the most entertaining games of the season went down in Salt Lake City last night, and the Arizona Wildcats were able to escape with a road win for just the second time in five tries. Arizona controlled the first half, with a Caleb Love basket putting them up by 16 going into the break. The Utes didn’t go away though, and after trailing 41-25 at half, tied the game at 63-63 with six minutes remaining. From there, it was non-stop back and forth action, Arizona failing to convert on chances to win the game in regulation and the second overtime, with the Utes surrendering a chance at the end of the first overtime. The Wildcats would finally put the game away in the third overtime, starting the period with an 11-2 run. 27 points from Pelle Larsson led Arizona in the scoring column, and Utah’s Branden Carlson scored 27 of his own. Arizona will finish up the tough road trip with a game at Colorado on Saturday.

#18 Dayton visits VCU in crucial Atlantic 10 matchup (7:00 ET, ESPN2)

Dayton sits atop the Atlantic 10 at 9-1 in conference play but will face one of their toughest road tests of the season at the Siegel Center tonight. After an untraditional, struggling start to the season at home, VCU has won their last three home games. The win streak includes knocking off a previously undefeated team in conference play, Richmond, by 11 in the most recent home game. Dayton comes in having won three straight, and forward DaRon Holmes II is averaging 24 points per game during the streak, after scoring just nine points in a loss at Richmond. VCU is led in scoring by Max Shulga at 15.1 points per game and is looking for a big night from the senior guard once again after a near triple double at Fordham last time out.

#24 San Diego State visits Nevada as both teams look to gain a quality win (8:00 ET, CBSSN)

San Diego State comes into tonight’s game in Reno in a four-way tie for first place in the Mountain West. The Mountain West has had yet another great season so far, and both SDSU and Nevada could very well be tournament teams come March. Nevada comes in with a bit more work to do, after getting off to a 3-4 start in conference play, including a road loss to Wyoming. Each side in this matchup has a contender for MWC Player of the Year, an award that could very well be decided by whose team wins the league. For the Aztecs, it’s their big man, Jaedon LeDee (20.0 ppg, 8.6 rpg) and for the Wolf Pack it’s Kenan Blackshear (15.7 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 4.7 apg). This game will be vital in deciding the Mountain West regular season race and could have a tremendous impact on the seeding of these teams on Selection Sunday.
