ACC/SEC Challenge matchups released, headlined by UNC/Alabama and Auburn/Duke

The ACC/SEC Challenge matchups were released on Wednesday, and we were blessed with a great slate of games. The best matchup features UNC and Alabama in Coleman Coliseum, a rematch for these two teams who met in the Sweet 16 this past season. Both the Tar Heels and Crimson Tide will be ranked in the AP Top 10 to start the season, and both have a likely Preseason First Team All-American in their lineup, in RJ Davis and Mark Sears.

Other eye-catching matchups include Auburn/Duke, Arkansas/Miami, Kentucky/Clemson, Ole Miss/Louisville and Wake Forest/Texas A&M. Auburn and Duke will likely both be top 15 teams, and Johni Broome and Cooper Flagg will be two of the best players in the country this season, and the game will be played inside Cameron Indoor Stadium. The intrigue of the Arkansas and Miami game is the coaching matchup, featuring two legends of the game in John Calipari and Jim Larranaga. Kentucky and Clemson should be a good one, as both teams look to prove people wrong; Kentucky in the fact that Mark Pope is the guy to lead the Wildcats, as Clemson looks to prove it can win without PJ Hall in the middle. Ole Miss and Louisville are both sneaky good teams next year, and the coaching matchup of Chris Beard vs Pat Kelsey could be one of the fieriest we see all season. Wake Forest and Texas A&M is another game you can’t look past, as Hunter Sallis (WF) and Wade Taylor IV (TAMU) both returned to school and will be lighting up scoreboards all season.

With the conference realignment changes happening this year, the challenge has been increased to 16 games, a blessing for all of the neutral college basketball fans in the chaos of the realignment era. Being able to watch games like Auburn/Duke and UNC/Alabama played on a true home court is something that is rare nowadays, and something college basketball fans should cherish this season.
