Dan Hurley announces return to UConn, turns down job offer from Lakers

Adrian Wojnarowski shook the college basketball world on Thursday morning when he announced UConn head coach Dan Hurley was in deep discussions with the Lakers about their open head coaching position. On Friday, Hurley met with the Lakers owner Jeanie Buss and general manager Rob Pelinka before spending the weekend thinking on his decision. The college basketball world was in a frenzy, hypothesizing everything that could happen in the sport as a result of Hurley’s possible departure. On Sunday night, Wojnarowski gave an update, stating Hurley would inform the public of his decision on Monday afternoon.

After a stressful four days for everyone involved, Dan Hurley announced on Monday before the Huskies took the court for a practice that he would be returning to UConn. The pull from the Lakers is about as good of a package as you can put together, a big market, players like Lebron James and Anthony Davis, and the most iconic brand in basketball. This wasn’t enough to get Hurley to flip coasts though, as UConn itself currently has a great pull, with Hurley and his team now preparing themselves to go for a third straight national championship victory. After he turned down Kentucky and the Lakers in a single offseason, it’s hard to imagine Dan Hurley ends up anywhere outside of Storrs for the rest of his coaching career.
