Iowa comes back from 20 down to beat Minnesota

The Minnesota Golden Gophers started the game against Iowa on Sunday the exact opposite way the game between the two teams had gone a month ago. The Gophers jumped out to a 15-6 lead and held a 51-38 advantage at the half. Elijah Hawkins and Pharrel Payne had battled foul trouble, but the Gophers had played well. The start of the second half saw the Minnesota run continue, with a Mike Mitchell three-pointer bringing the lead to 20. The final 16 minutes would belong to the Iowa Hawkeyes though, and over the final 7:40 they outscored Minnesota 25-8. Payton Sandfort was terrific for the Hawkeyes, posting a stat line of 21 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Freshman Owen Freeman played well alongside Sandfort, going for 17 points and 14 rebounds. The 20-point comeback was the Gophers second blown 20-point lead of the season (vs Missouri) and gave the Hawkeyes a big win in their quest for an NCAA Tournament berth.

#9 Duke hosts Wake Forest as both sides search for quality win (7:00 ET, ESPN)

Duke finishes a three-game home stand tonight when they host Wake Forest and look to make it three wins in three games. Following a loss to UNC, the Blue Devils bounced back and blew out both Notre Dame and Boston College. Kyle Filipowski (17.2 ppg, 8.2 rpg) has been up and down in recent games and will have to battle in the post against Wake Forest’s Andrew Carr (14.1 ppg, 6.9 rpg) and Efton Reid III (8.8 ppg, 8.4 rpg). Wake Forest comes into Monday’s game riding a three-game winning streak, a stretch where leading scorer Hunter Sallis has been averaging over 22 points per game. Both of these teams have talent and need the win to improve their tournament resume. With a win, Duke would add their first Quad 2 win to their resume, while a Wake Forest win would be their first in Quad 1.

#4 Kansas visits #23 Texas Tech in Big 12 matchup (9:00 ET, ESPN)

Kansas will look to get back in the win column on the road on Monday, after losing three straight road games to West Virginia, Iowa State, and Kansas State. The Jayhawks picked up a win on Saturday vs Baylor after losing to Kansas State last Monday, even with leading scorer Kevin McCullar Jr. out injured. McCullar Jr.’s status for tonight’s game is still in the air, a game he’ll be hoping to play in against his former school. Hunter Dickinson (18.7 ppg, 11.0 rpg) will look to be a force that Texas Tech could struggle to deal with, but the Red Raiders could pose an advantage in the backcourt if McCullar is out. Pop Isaacs (16.9 ppg) is one of the best scorers in the Big 12, and Joe Toussaint (12.7 ppg, 4.2 apg) is a great facilitator and defender.
